Abstract

Experimental evidence of ion clustering is studied in Tm3+:CaF2 using the spectroscopic signature given by the quenching of the 1.45 μm fluorescence. A model, based on rate equations, and taking into account the probabilities of the different states for clusters, is proposed. The agreement with experimental data appears better with a pair model than with a conventional rate equation model analysis.
