Abstract

Canadian aerospace is a consistently expanding industry that is currently the fourth largest in the world with revenues in excess of CAN$23 billion.1 Despite its strong position, the industry faces some significant challenges. The European Union has initiated a trend to make the industry more proactive about reducing its impact on the environment. This will inevitably lead to increased research and development of environmental management technologies for aerospace. Meanwhile, the Aerospace Industry Association of Canada (AIAC) recently concluded that research and development in the industry are inadequate to support future growth.2 The report described changes to the global supply chain that have created gaps in the industry and made a strong case for developing a comprehensive strategy to address all issues facing the industry.
