Abstract
A study of social and ethnic stereotypes. The present article has the objective of presenting various theories for the experimental study of stereotypes. Its aim is neither to describe nor to estimate the objective and characteristic contributions of each field of research. The point is to enumerate and to define the various references of theoretical filiation for the study of the field of research under consideration . The study of stereotypes leads to various fields depending on the interest of the researchers : social categorization, implicit theories of personality, role theory, script, social representation ... The variety of those different kinds of approach indicate the wealth and depth of the concept. Its contribution proves fundamental in the explanation, the organization and the prediction of numerous aspects of human behaviour.
