Abstract

Cadmium telluride was developed as an infrared transmitting material covering the broad spectral region from 1 to 30 micro. High transmitting windows up to 3 1 4 in. dia. have been formed by the hot-pressing method. Property measurements of cadmium telluride are presented. A comparison is made of cadmium telluride and other well known and available materials that transmit from 1 to 30 micro. Cadmium telluride appears to be the superior material, particularly for applications under severe environmental conditions.
