Abstract
In cress, Lepidium sativum, the combined cadmium-ozone treatment induced an earlier development of chlorosis and necrosis than did the separate cadmium or ozone treatments. This injury was observed at a lower cadmium and ozone concentration than with separate treatments. Young leaves, which are usually injury-free in the presence of cadmium or ozone alone, were injured when a combined cadmium and ozone stress was present. The cadmium concentration in young leaves was higher during ozone exposure. Moreover, immediately after the end of ozone exposure, cadmium uptake by the plants was stimulated and redistribution occurred among the leaves and stem.
