Abstract

Levels of heavy metals in livers of white-tailed deer from Russell Plantation, Macon County, AL, were analyzed by inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectroscopy. Mean levels of Cd, Co, Cu, Ni, and Zn in livers were 0.21, 0.08, 32.28, 0.50, and 49.93 ppm, respectively, and did not show any difference (P < 0.05) between male and female deer or between young and old deer. However, the mean Ni levels were different (P < 0.05) between young and old deer. Concentrations of the heavy metals in livers were not influenced by sex or age of the deer.
