Abstract

A new phase CaBa2Cu2FeO6 was synthesized by the ceramic procedure (vacuum, 930°C) from Ca2Fe2O5 and BaCuO2 intermediates. The phase is tetragonal and has a 123 structure with unit cell parameters a = b = 0.4089(3) nm, c = 1.2330(8) nm. Based on the Mossbauer data it is concluded that the iron atoms are in the Fe(3+) state and occupy only the Cu(2) sites, i.e., have tetragonal pyramidal surroundings.
