Abstract

We have triggered Ca2+-induced Ca2+ release (CICR) from the sarcoplasmic reticulum (SR) of isolated myofibrillar bundles of barnacle striated muscle fibres using the rapid photorelease of Ca2+ from the caged calcium molecule, nitr-5 (Adams et al, 1988), thus overcoming diffusional delays normally inherent in such experiments.
