Abstract

Out of step: The self-organized growth of gold nanowires has been carried out using C60 as promoter and a stepped graphite surface as template. The deposition of C60 onto a freshly prepared gold film leads to exclusive formation of gold–C60 nanowire structures at the step edges of the graphite surface (see AFM image). The technique provides a route to the fabrication of controlled nanoscale structures.
