Abstract

In this study, in order to improve wear and corrosion resistance of Co-Cr-Mo alloy, investigation of surface modification effects of ELID grinding were carried out. ASTM F1537 Co-Cr-Mo alloy samples were fabricated by ELID grinding with different electrolytic currents and their surface characteristics and cell compatibility were compared to polished samples. ELID ground samples showed surfaces as smooth as polished ones. In addition, ELID ground samples with higher electrolytic current showed higher hardness and less ionic elution than other series. This was because ELID grinding with high electrolytic current generated a thick oxide layer on the surface of Co-Cr-Mo alloy.
