Abstract

The aerodynamic characteristic of a rotating circular cylinder with and without a circular cross sectional groove which simulated a dimple of a golf ball was investigated in a two dimensional smoke wind tunnel. The diameter of the circular cylinder model was twice that of a golf ball, the wind tunnel velocity was 15 m/sec, the test Reynold's number was below 8.5×10 4, the rotating speed of the circular cylinder was below 3, 000 r.p.m.. The effect of a groove on the flow around the circular cylinder was clarified by the flow visualization of a separated region and separation point behind a circular cylinder.
