Abstract

This study deals with a new method of interference-free tool path generation for complex surfaces in 5- axis control machining using a ball end mill. Tool path in 5-axis control machining is usually generated based on each surface of maching surfaces. However, continuous changes in tool posture is generally not considered at surface boundary. On the other hand, the proposed method at first generates interference- free space by considering all machining surfaces. Then, all cutting points and tool postures are determined by dividing the interference-free space. The proposed method is verified by conducting test cutting of complex surface.
