Abstract

For solid oxide fuel celt, a new anode with proton conductor made of Strontium Zirconium Yttrium oxide (SZY, SrZr_<0.95>Y_<0.05>O_<3-a>) was investigated. Power generation experiments were conducted using a single cell with Ni/YSZ incorporating 5%SZY anode. It was disclosed that the output density of the cell with Ni/YSZ-5%SZY anode was higher than that with Ni/YSZ anode under the condition of low partial pressure of hydrogen. In addition, alternative impedance measurement was conducted and from impedance spectra, anode overpotential was estimated. By adding 5%SZY to Ni/YSZ, the anode overpotential was decreased under the condition of low hydrogen partial pressure. At the situation of a low concentration hydrogen supply, it is expected that the SZY proton conductor might play an important role in hydrogen supply and/or storage similar to the case of BCY proton conductor.
