Abstract

Cutting test and analytical prediction based on regenerative chatter theory are the methods to analyze the stability of machine tool chatter. However, the testing procedure is complex and work material is wasted, and prediction is based on fixed machine dynamics in frequency domain. In this paper, occurrence of regenerative chatter is examined by using an electromagnetic loading device. In the test, spindle displacement is feedback to the loading device with a process model.
