Abstract

Malignant disease is highlighted as an important risk factor for venous thromboembolism (VTE). VTE is the second leading cause of death in hospitalised and ambulatory cancer patients. Potential risk factors for VTE in cancer patients can be divided into patients, cancer and treatment-related characteristics.
