Abstract
In its wisdom the American Chemical Society gives great power to the editorial staffs of its journals and magazines, taking particular care to screen them from undue influences that could tend to undermine the integrity and public standing of the publications. A sound policy. But this great power brings both great responsibility and complete accountability to the ACS membership and to other readers. So in this spirit, and as the new decade opens, it is appropriate for the C&EN staff to report directly to its readers on its efforts in recent years to serve the trust placed in it. It is C&EN's conviction that it can best serve its readers by bringing them every week a unique package of information of significance and use to them in their lives as chemical professionals—in other words to be the news magazine that has to be read by those who need to keep abreast of what is going ...
