By the Be/side disappearing faces gradually: Distinctive viewpoint in Korean Hansen's disease literature researches

Abstract

이 글은 한센병문학 연구의 난점을 고민하는 것에서 출발한다. 한센병문학 연구를 진행하면서 ‘곁’의 의미에 대해 생각해 보았다. 연구자 위치에서 한센인 혹은 한센병의 ‘곁을 쓴다는 것’은 그 대상과의 윤리적인 거리를 요청한다. ‘곁에서 쓴다는 것’은 곁의 무엇과 완전히 동일한 것이 되지 않으면서 그것과 함께 머물러 있으려 하는 행위이다. 다음으로 한센인을 둘러싼 언어적 표현들을 분석하는 과정에서 한센인의 신체에 대한 사회적 인식을 확인할 수 있다. 한센인 작가들은 실명을 숨기고 구름[雲]이나 그림자[影]처럼 실체 없는 이미지들에서 빌려온 가명(假名)을 사용했는데, 그것은 한센인들의 자기표현의 한 방법으로 볼 수 있다. 한하운은 가면극(假面劇)과 시&#65378;문둥이&#65379; 속의 나환자들에서 비애와 저항을 읽는다. 또한 일본의 이야기(&#65378;高橋阿傳&#65379;)에서 한센병에 걸린 남편을 살해하는 여성을 비판하는 한편, 레오나르도 다빈치의 <모나리자> 속의 여인을 한센인으로 해석하기도 한다. 한하운의 글은 나병 계몽운동기에 계몽운동가로서의 그의 입장과 한계를 보여준다. 한국 한센병문학 연구는 다른 질병 문학들과 변별되는 접근을 요구한다. 따라서 질병을 재현하는 주체의 차이를 고려해야 한다. 이 논문은 그러한 작업의 일환이다. 그 특수성에 대해서는 앞으로 다른 지면에서 더 섬세하게 검토할 예정이다.This study starts expressing difficulties as a researcher about Hansen’s disease patients[HDP] literature studies in Korea. I think over the meanings of be/side [곁]. The word ‘be/side’ connected with writing, which is to cognize the invisible gaps between HDP and not-HDP. In the position as a researcher, to write by the be/side contains ethical distance. ‘To write by the be/side’ is an act of staying with something that isn’t exactly the same as anything else. We briefly review the linguistic expressions inscribed in HDP s bodies. The process of the analysis reveals the social perception of HDP. HDP uses assumed names concealing their real names. Those names stem from insubstantial images such as cloud[雲] or shadow[影]. It looks like methods of HDP self- expression. HAN haun s essays show his stance as a leper and leprosy enlightenment movement doer. He reads sorrow and resistance from lepers of Mask drama[假面劇] and poem &#65378;Mundungi&#65379;. Also, He criticizes the image of a wife who kills a husband in Japanese story(&#65378;高橋阿傳&#65379;), and interpret woman’ face in the painting Mona Lisa by Leonardo da Vinci as the HDP woman’ face. Korean HDP literature studies demand peculiar access not similar to other diseases literature. This paper is just a part of such tasks. In the future, I promise to do a careful analysis of the distinct traits than before.
