Abstract

Butanol as a fuel has many advantages over ethanol. However, the fermentative production and the use of lignocellulose-containing residues is still a great challenge. Aceton-butanol-ethanol (ABE) fermentation was investigated by Clostridium saccharobutylicum DSM 13864 of ammonia fiber expansion(AFEX)-pretreated bagasse hydrolysate. Fermentation was carried out in two anaerobic fermentation systems: in a batch culture using 100-milliliters tight closed serum flasks and one-liter anaerobic fermenter.
