Abstract

The modern neoclassical economics takes two approaches to economic fluctuations and business cycles: the endogenous approach and the exogenous approach. While the exogenous approach views fluctuations and cycles as a result of random shocks, the endogenous approach attributes them to the fundamental structure of an economy resulting in complex non-linear dynamics. This study explains these approaches by constructing a simple framework that provides a unified view for the approaches.
