Abstract

The authors propose a new burst-mode optical receiver with two preamplifiers, each with a different bandwidth, to suppress the burst-mode penalty without preamble bits. The receiver, designed with 0.6 µm CMOS, has a sensitivity of –40.8 dBm with a dynamic range of 20.8 dB at 155 Mbit/s.
