Abstract
Although research on burnout syndrome was started a few decades ago, researchers and practitioners continue to be interested in burnout syndrome due to its significant negative consequences. Burnout syndrome is one of the phenomena that constitute the dark side of organizational behavior today. Hence, this chapter aims to present a comprehensive source and reference guide for researchers who are interested in burnout syndrome, for organizational managers who try to manage adverse circumstances in their companies, and for employees who suffer from burnout to obtain in-depth knowledge about burnout syndrome and to be aware of and familiar with it. For this purpose, initially, burnout syndrome is defined. Then, its theoretical foundations are addressed. The ways it is experienced are explained through three perspectives, such as individual, contextual, and regulatory perspectives. Following this, the coping mechanisms are elaborated. Finally, suggestions and inferences are made to researchers and practitioners.
