Abstract
This article deals with the translations of the Joint Publications Research Service (JPRS). Since 1957 the JPRS has been the largest single source of English language translations in the world. JPRS translations are of particular interest to scientists and social scientists concerned with developments in Communist and third world countries. This article briefly describes the organizational history of the JPRS and the nature of JPRS translations. Ways of acquiring and organizing JPRS materials are discussed. The bulk of this article deals with problems of accessing JPRS serial reports. Subject access to JPRS serial publications is the most difficult problem confronting users of JPRS translations. The many bibliographies and indexes which provide partial subject access to JPRS reports are described.
