Abstract

(Acta Obstet Gynecol Scand. 2023;102:313–322) Maternal opioid use disorder (MOUD) is a global concern. It poses many complications and risk factors for mothers, fetuses, and infants. Mothers are at risk of experiencing negative effects on the nervous system, increased infection risk, and poor nutrition. Children are at risk for neonatal opioid withdrawal syndrome (NOWS) and other long-term health conditions. It is recommended that mothers obtain opioid maintenance treatment (OMT) to reduce these risks. This study aimed to compare the effects of buprenorphine-naloxone, buprenorphine, and methadone treatment plans on outcomes for pregnant women.
