Abstract

1. 1. In this paper we call attention to the fact that despite sparse reporting, some mortality and morbidity do exist after the surgical treatment of bullous emphysema. 2. 2. It is suggested that patients who have multiple small bullous areas at the base of larger ones do not lend themselves well to the excision and suture technic because of the incidence of postoperative air leaks and other complications. 3. 3. It is suggested that simple ligation of the base of each of the bullae is a safe and effective method which may be used with low morbidity and good results.
