Abstract

It is difficult to fabricate large-sized bulk anisotropic nanocomposite magnets with a high content of soft phase (≥20 wt%) using an economical preparation technique. Here, a large-sized anisotropic Nd2Fe14B/α-Fe nanocomposite was prepared by commercial hot rolling. The prepared nanocomposite possessed a Nd2Fe14B phase with an apparent (00l) texture and an α-Fe phase with a fraction of 32.8 wt%. The grain sizes of these two phases were ∼47 nm and ∼37 nm, respectively. The nanocomposite exhibited an obvious magnetic anisotropy and a maximum energy product of (BH)max = 22.4 MGOe. This work provides a potential strategy for the practical production of large-sized and high-performance Nd2Fe14B-type nanocomposite magnets.
