Abstract
A previously healthy 46-year-old man presented with a 2 week history of malaise, sore throat, dysphagia, and, latterly, headache with behavioural changes and episodic confusion. On admission he had upper abdominal and transient interscapular pain. There was no history of hypertension or of cardiovascular or neurological disease.
