Abstract
This month, March 7–11, “CERA Week” kicks off in Houston. Called by CNBC the “Superbowl of Energy,” the event is known for attracting heads of state, former presidents, CEOs of energy companies from across the world, and an enormous international attendee list, all paying very high fees to listen to several panels. What I have always found noteworthy is the sheer quantity of Rolls Royces, Maybachs, Aston Martins and Lambos that converge on the area around the George R. Brown Convention Center. The founder and chairman of the event is Daniel Yergin, chairman of IHS Markit, which absorbed his old company, CERA—the company name has changed, but the annual conference still pays tribute to the old name.
