Abstract

Following the success of Operation DESERT STORM, the United States Army is evolving a global orientation. Forward defence and forward presence will now be the priority, with the primary mission of the Army being to project land combat power within the framework of NATO realignments, arms control agreements and out‐of‐area commitments. General Foss reviews plans for the Army to 1995, outlines the concept of AirLand Operations and explores the use of new technology, contingency operations and force projection.
