Abstract

This paper seeks to build a data warehouse for the central region directorate of the Ghana Education Service (GES). The project deployed the top-down approach by relying on the hub and spoke architecture based on a Joint Application Development (JAD) session organized to elicit user requirements. Again, dependent data marts, as well as the star schema, were chosen due to their uniqueness and appropriateness for the project. There were, however, some shortcomings involving data quality, efficiency, user acceptance, and cost. The data warehouse project, however, helped to improve management decision-making in terms of tracking, quality and efficiency in resource and logistics use, as well as predicting growth in the near future.
