Abstract

Background: Two pediatric residents at the Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO), in Ottawa, Canada have recognized the need for preventative mental health and resilience programs, specifically in the school setting. Prior to this project, there were no resident-led, community-based, child advocacy initiatives in Ottawa. In 2016-17, two pediatric residents have delivered bi-weekly workshops at an urban elementary school, with a population consisting of high socioeconomic, academic, and cultural needs (many immigrant and refugee families).
