Abstract

A study of building penetration losses and noise levels in the Medium Wave band is presented in this letter. The corresponding results were obtained from a significant set of empirical data taken at several frequencies between 600 kHz and 1600 kHz during exhaustive indoor and outdoor measurement campaigns carried out in northern Spain. Building penetration losses at these frequencies were quantified and a mean value of 6.5 dB was calculated. Signal and noise spatial variability was characterized obtaining noteworthy standard deviations of more than 10 dB for both indoor and outdoor environments. Also, noise levels for these two types of environments were analyzed and the conclusion in this case was that there is not a major difference between them.
