Abstract
Sao Paulo city has one of the world's largest metropolitan areas, with more than 300 high-rise and high standard office buildings. Most of those constructions adopt the ‘International Style’ pattern for the facade solution, with high single glazed window-to-wall ratios. This paper presents a discussion about energy performance of envelope solutions of high-rise office buildings in Sao Paulo city, through a data assembling of 40 LEED certified office buildings and a thermal and energy performance analysis. Parameters identified as being mainly responsible for building energy performance were raised, based on results of computer simulation in EnergyPlus. As a result, guidelines for envelope design with suggested ranges for each selected parameter were presented, considering thermal performance characteristics and energy savings potential.
