Abstract

These days, we see a couple of Augmented Reality (AR) applications out in the market, and often the question arises how they differ from each other. One huge differentiating factor certainly is how many different kinds of users and use cases one particular application can serve - ordinary users seeking for the closest restaurant or hotel, users wanting to navigate from point A to point B, users wanting to experience excitement and fun, developers, content creators producing geo-referenced content, etc. To attract various different kinds of users, an application needs an underlying ecosystem - a platform, which links the various parts of the application together to a complete AR environment. This presentation explains how one can build an Augmented Reality platform using the example of the Wikitude platform. It focuses on what components are necessary for a successful AR ecosystem, how these components can interact and work together and what needs to be particularly considered when creating a great AR experience for all kinds of users.
