Abstract

In this research, we build an interactive and collaborative 3D human anatomy learning system (3D-HALS) by using Xj3D. With the cross-platform feature and rich networking supports from Xj3D, 3D-HALS establishes a multi-user, multi-platform virtual learning environment. Under this environment, learners and instructors are able to perform collaborative learning and engage in group discussions regardless of their locations and types of computer systems. To enhance our system's performance, level of detail (LOD) is introduced into 3D-HALS. By carefully applying mesh simplification operations, we have increased frame per second (FPS) rate by 80 % and reduced loading time by 50%.
