Abstract

ABSTRACTPlanning a conference can be as easy or as difficult as doing a puzzle. Just like a puzzle, however, organizing your pieces at the beginning of the process can greatly simplify the task and increase successful outcomes. In our own planning of National Dance Education Organization conferences, we have used the following organizational structure: creating a budget, focus of the conference, planning for attendees and timing of the event, location of the event, establishing a site committee, determining programming, creating a schedule, publicity, and “showtime” management. Taking the time to organize each of these “pieces” of your conference puzzle and giving them adequate attention will increase successful outcomes for all involved, including attendees, presenters, and conference staff.
