Abstract

In the present work, nanostructured 8YSZ coatings were produced by atmospheric plasma spraying using synthesized nanostructured t'-8YSZ feedstocks. The splats characteristics were systematically analysed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Results indicate that there are columnar nano-grains in splats and the preferential growth orientation of columnar nano-grains is [101] direction. Finally, the growth mechanism of columnar nano-grains in splats for plasma-sprayed nanostructured YSZ coatings was proposed in detail.
