Abstract
Using He, Ne, and Ar buffer gases, lasing performances of a compact Blumlein-type XeBr laser at 282 nm have been studied. The maximum energy of 0.64 mJ and the maximum power of 190 kW have been obtained with 4-atm Xe/HBr/Ne mixture. He-based mixture has been inferior to Ne-based mixture both in the output energy and in the gas lifetime. Atmospheric-pressure operation has been possible only by an Ar buffer gas. These buffer-gas dependences have been similar to those of XeCl lasers.
