Abstract

Investigated herein is the buckling behaviour of nonlocal elastic stepped nanobeams with intermediate supports, which are subjected to the axial compressions. The constitutive equations are established within the framework of Eringen’s nonlocal theory of elasticity to embrace the small size effect. An analytical method has been developed for the determination of critical buckling loads for axially loaded nanobeams with intermediate supports. The comparison of the degenerated results with the available work in the literature is found to be in close agreement. The small size effect, the intermediate support location, on the stability of nanobeams is thoroughly discussed by the parametric studies. The numerical simulations are carried out with the help of MATLAB tools.
