Abstract

This paper proposes a novel multilevel inverter based on buck converter that can create any level at output. Multilevel inverters are preferred since it produces a smooth stepped output voltage waveform with output voltage having number of levels to reduce THD. But the trade-off in conventional multi-level inverters is in the control circuit complexity and more number of active& passive components for higher levels. A new type of buck converter based any level inverter (ALI) with varying duty ratio is proposed to mitigate the above problems to a great extent. The number of power electronic components remains same for any level of generation and thus the complexity of the circuit for higher level generation can be eliminated. Analysis of the proposed converter is carried out in this paper thoroughly and operation of the proposed any level inverter is verified by simulation using MATLAB/SIMULINK software.
