Abstract

Mercury floatability in solutions of carboxylic acids (n octanoic, n-nonanoic and n-dodecanoic) of various pH (2–12), with and without addition of 0.1 M KCl, was studied in model flotation apparatus. Results were related to the size distribution of gas hubbies forming under standard conditions of flotation tests. High mercury floatability was obtained not only in solutions of good mercury hydrophobization but also at low mercury hydrophobization and optimal size of bubbles.Hence, this parameter should also be taken into account when correlations between various physicochemical properties of the system and flotation recovery are drawn.
