Abstract

Due to the low adsorption capacity, poor adsorption selectivity and poor biocompatibility of bilirubin adsorption materials currently used, it is still a challenge to design an efficient bilirubin removal material for the treatment of hyperbilirubinemia. In this work, BSA-grafted (bovine serum albumin) porous amino polypyrrole was constructed by grafting bovine serum albumin onto porous amino polypyrrole composites. Comparing with porous amino polypyrrole, its removal rate was as high as 90% in 25 mg/L conjugated bilirubin solution, and it has significantly improved the selectivity of adsorption. In addition, it has good blood compatibility and biocompatibility. Superhydrophobic interaction, hydrogen bond and pore filling were the main reasons for bilirubin adsorption. BSA-grafted porous amino polypyrrole has potential application value in whole blood perfusion.
