Abstract

The Brownian motion of charged particles in oblique electric and magnetic fields with frictional anisotropy is studied for the first time using the white noise functional approach. We obtain the following exact expressions: velocity-space and configuration-space probability density functions, mean square deviations for velocity and displacement, and diffusion coefficients. We investigate the effect of the frictional interaction parameters, Γx (or Γy), on the trajectory of the mean position, and the diffusion coefficients along the x- and y-directions for different values of electric and magnetic field strength.
