Abstract
At the international level there have been a number of interesting developments. First, the South Asian Football Federation Cup was established in 1993 from the South Asian Federation Games. Secondly, Baichung Bhutia became the first south Asian to play professional football in Europe. This signalled the existence and quality of Indian football to a sceptical global audience. Thirdly, India and Bangladesh played four matches in England in July 2000. The matches attracted reasonable crowds, largely from the South Asian communities living in England. Finally, the Internet has been used as a means of publicizing south Asian football and bringing together interested members of the global, South Asian diaspora.[1]
