Abstract
Bronchiolar disorders are synonymous with small airways diseases. Normal small airways are defined as airways that have an internal diameter of 2 mm or smaller and a wall thickness of less than 0.5 mm.1,2 Bronchiolar disorders are relatively common and encompass a wide range of inflammatory and infectious processes affecting these terminal airways. High-resolution CT (HRCT), in conjunction with clinical history and pathology, plays an important role in their evaluation. In this article, we provide a simplified approach to the evaluation of bronchiolar disorders by dividing them into 4 broad groups based on their predominant HRCT imaging features. These HRCT imaging findings often are described in relation to the secondary pulmonary lobule.
