Abstract

Chiral SU(2) ⊗ SU(2) and SU(3) ⊗ SU(3) symmetries are investigated in the framework of the algebra of fields and of the effective Lagrangians. The breaking of these symmetries is introduced quite generally by replacing in the symmetric Lagrangian equal masses and coupling constants by different ones in such a way that current algebra is satisfied. The first Weinberg sum rule, a modified form of the second one as well as a sum rule relating the spin one and spin zero spectral functions are obtained. Moreover, a relation between 1 + and 1 − meson mass ratios is derived. The Weinberg mass relation is obtained when the pion is not massless and the D- and E- meson masses are estimated.
