Abstract
On 19 October 1994, the Lebanese Parliament passed ie first broadcasting law in Lebanon and, probably, the whole Arab world. The law is known as the Audiovisual Information Law. It unll go into force upon its signature by the President of Lebanon and publication in the Official Gazette. The law revoked Tele-Liban's monopoly over television broadcasting, authorised the establishment of private television and radio stations, and provided administrative and criminal penalties for the violation of its provisions and the provisions of the other laws in force. This is the first time in the Middle East that an Arab country has autherised private television and radio staiions to operate within its borders.
