Abstract

Broadcast educators in recent years have often felt academically homeless—no longer comfortable under the speech “canopy”; and not yet successfully integrated into other areas of knowledge. Currently, mass media research and the development of ETV have created new prestige and new opportunities for the academic broadcast specialist? both at home and abroad. These opportunities can best be realized if the speech profession and the broadcasting profession effect a reconciliation.
