Abstract

In this paper, an open resonator operates at a broadband of 20–40GHz is provided to measure complex permittivity. It is a hemispherical open resonator and two coupling rings are placed in the centre of spherical mirror to put energy in and out of the resonator. The relationship between quality factor and energy diffraction from sample edge has been analyzed in detail in this paper. What's more, the relationship between energy diffraction and sample diameter are offered with the use of matlab, which is good for preparation of sample. Finally, a quartz disk and a Teflon disk were measured by the provided open resonator, and the results show that this measurement system has a great performance at frequency of 20–40GHz and possess reliable repeatability.
