Abstract

A waveguide intersection has been proposed with a square dielectric resonant cavity at the crossing section for strip waveguides embedded in two-dimensional photonic crystals. Parameters of the strip waveguides and the square cavity are optimized to provide wide bandwidths for both high transmission and low crosstalk for the intersection. A transmission of higher than ?0.46?dB and a crosstalk of lower than ?13?dB were obtained with bandwidths of 30.6% and 54.5% of the entire photonic bandgap, respectively.
