Abstract
Brønsted acid-base ionic liquids, derived from a simple combination of a wide variety of organic amines with bis(trifluoromethane sulfonyl)imide are proton-conducting and show electroactivity for H2 oxidation and O2 reduction at a Pt electrode under nonhumidifying conditions. Protic ionic liquids of this variety can be used as electrolytes for fuel cells operating at elevated temperatures.
